Concord

The Concord Watch Company SA is another of the well known watch companies that was founded in and is still headquartered in Biel, Switzerland. There are many different watchmakers who are headquartered in Paris, France; New York, USA; Germany and Switzerland. This could be due to the excellence of the Swiss watch movements (parts) or it could possibly be due to the fact that the Swiss watchmakers are extremely diligent when it comes to the craft of making watches and watch parts. There are many different models of Concord Watches that are seen and sold all over the world. What you may or may not already know is that The Concord Watch Company SA was one of the very first watchmakers to create the arrivate Label?Concord Watch that combined both precious metals such as Gold and Platinum and precious gems like Diamonds, Rubies and Sapphires in the production of these watches. The arrivate Label?Concord Watch was one of the very first of the lines of Luxury watches that Concord Watches SA started with in 1915. There is something that happened in 1945 that might really get your attention and show you just how important and influential Concord Watches really are (well the items that are involved in this little piece of World History were not wrist watches, but rather desk clocks). In 1945 then United States President Harry S. Truman had been given 3 Concord desk clocks. Two of these were then presents by President Truman to British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and General Joseph Stalin (Leader of the Soviet Communist Party 1922 - 1953). Both men were said to be very pleased with them?according to President Truman's personal note to a Mr. Florman in the early part of 1945. One year later The Concord Watch Company SA introduced the very first Concord Watches that used actual coins as the watch band/bracelet. This was something that had not been thought of and was an innovation that was made a truly elegant Concord Watch. If you wanted a watch that spoke of true luxury and innovation, this was the Concord Watch that you were likely to choose. A big change came for the Concord Watch Company SA and Concord Watches in 1970 when Gedalio Grinberg becomes the head of the Concord Watch Company SA. He proceeded to merge Concord with the North American Watch Corporation (headquartered in New York). The next innovation in Concord Watches came in 1979 with the introduction of the celirium I?Concord Watch. This watch made history for the Concord Watch Company SA because it was the very first (but nowhere near the last) watch of it's kind that was totally flat. This watch's face was only 1.98 mm thick (high) and was the watch that led the way for many more such designs to start coming out into the marketplace in successive years. This is innovation that was, but was not, ahead of it's time. One year later Concord came out with the Delirium IV which was less the 1 mm thick.
